Our Story

Seek the City Was Born from a Hunger for More.

Wayne and Rhonda searched for mentors who knew Jesus deeply, and when they were difficult to find, they chose to become that for others.

Who We Are

Meet the Founders

Wayne & Rhonda Smith are the husband-and-wife team behind Seek the City.

How We Got Here

One word, and everything changed

Wayne and Rhonda were married in February 2026. When Wayne moved from his home in Wichita Falls to be with Rhonda and her children in Mansfield, Texas, he had no idea what God was about to do next.

One morning, he heard the word “Alvarado” — a city he didn’t even know existed, just 20 minutes away. That word led to a rally uniting six churches and two nonprofits, lifting up the name of Jesus and encouraging believers across the area. From there, God moved them to Cleburne, Texas, to open the Seek the City prayer room.

Today, their reach extends well past Johnson County. They’re always seeking how God wants to expand it farther. Wayne leads outreaches, connecting with people in their everyday lives. Rhonda leads inner healing and deliverance sessions — both ministering to people in powerful, personal ways.

Two Ministries, One Calling

They didn’t plan it. But God did.

Before Seek the City, there were two ministries.

Wayne ran a nonprofit called Washing Feet, ministering to the homeless and evangelizing the community. Rhonda ran Pierced by Love, ministering through inner healing and deliverance. When they got married, the Lord didn’t just bring them together — He merged the work. Seek the City was born out of two people who’d each already been walking out their own calling, and who suddenly found themselves building something new, side by side.

They didn’t plan it. But God did.

Why We Do This

So they decided to become that for others.

Early in their walk with the Lord, Wayne and Rhonda searched for mentors — people who knew Jesus deeply, who could show them how to share their faith without fear, how to recognize God’s voice, and how to obey Him with bold faith. Those kinds of people were hard to find.

So they decided to become that for others.

Seek the City exists because Wayne and Rhonda want to be the mentors and companions they once looked for — walking alongside people who are hungry for more, and even those who don’t yet know a life like this is possible. They wanted a hub where believers could gather, worship together, grow in relationship with God and with one another, and learn to live out their faith seven days a week, not just on Sundays.

This isn’t a program they run from a distance. It’s a life they invite people into.

What We Believe

They don’t just teach it — they live it

Wayne and Rhonda equip believers to walk in faith every day of the week and to step fully into the purpose God has for their lives. They don’t just teach it — they live it, taking people by the hand to walk alongside them in evangelism, outreach, Bible studies, worship, and Inner Healing sessions.

Their prayer room is currently open four days a week, and they’re in the community on Sundays visiting local churches, as they continue reaching Cleburne, Johnson County, and beyond with the love and truth of Jesus Christ.

  • 01

    Nearness

Drawing near to Jesus through quiet time, His Word, and His voice is the foundation everything else grows out of.

  • 02

    Obedience

Your fruit isn’t measured in numbers, but in faithfulness to what God says, lived out daily.

  • 03

    Activation

You don’t just learn to hear God’s voice or share your faith. You practice it together, hands-on.

Draw Near. Walk in Obedience. Go and Activate.

Activation

They Don’t Just Teach — They Activate

Seek the City doesn’t just teach. They activate.

They don’t just talk about sharing their faith — they go out and do it, and they invite others to come with them. On worship nights, every voice matters. They don’t rely on one person to be the sole gateway for what God wants to say. Their workshops teach people how to hear God’s voice, and then they practice it together, right there in the room.

They hold to the disciplines that shape a life with Jesus — sitting still, reading the Word, spending quiet time in His presence — and they learn to carry His voice with them actively, throughout everyday life, not just on Sundays.

Above all, they’re committed to doing exactly what the Great Commission asks: making disciples, not just teaching about them.

The Future

How They Measure the Future

Wayne and Rhonda don’t measure their future in numbers.

They’re not chasing a bigger space or a bigger crowd. Their fruit is found in obedience to God — in showing up for the people right in front of them, and watching them grow in their faith as they bear fruit doing the work of Jesus.

They’d love to have five-year plans and one-year goals mapped out. But the honest truth is, they live one day at a time by the Word of God — not only the Bible, but His living, active Word that sends them out into the community daily. Their future isn’t something they’re building toward. It’s something they’re walking out, one act of obedience at a time.

Our Name

The city that is to come

“For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.”
Hebrews 13:14 (ESV)

Seek the City takes its name from this verse. Wayne and Rhonda are not only seeking the cities right here in their midst — Cleburne, Johnson County, and beyond — but they are seeking a city that is to come, one greater than they could ever think or imagine. And they are bringing others on this journey with them.

Marriage as a Picture

He is the foundation, not an addition

Wayne and Rhonda often use the analogy of marriage to describe their relationship with Jesus — because that’s exactly how they believe it’s meant to be lived.

It’s not about adding Jesus into the life they’ve already built for themselves. It’s about rebuilding their whole existence so that He is the foundation of it — present in every part, every decision, every day. They believe true believers are called to turn from the things of this world, which only satisfy for a season, and instead live in radical faith — pursuing the purpose and dreams Jesus has written on His heart for each of them.

This isn’t a new idea. Throughout the Old Testament, God repeatedly uses the picture of marriage to describe His love for Israel. Today, they want to be faithful lovers of God — hearts knit to His — living in anticipation of a beautiful eternity together with Him.

What We Believe

Statement of Faith

The Scriptures

The Bible, Old and New Testaments, is the inspired, infallible, authoritative Word of God, and the final standard for faith and life.

The Trinity

There is one God, eternally existing in three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — equal in power and glory.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the Son of God, fully God and fully man, born of a virgin, who lived a sinless life, died on the cross for the sins of humanity, rose bodily from the dead, and ascended to the right hand of the Father. He is coming again in power and glory.

Salvation

Salvation is a free gift of God’s grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ alone — not by works — resulting in forgiveness of sin, new birth, and eternal life.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit indwells every believer at salvation and empowers us to live a holy, Spirit-led life. We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the present-day operation of the gifts of the Spirit — including healing, prophecy, tongues, and discernment — as described in Scripture, given to build up the Church and advance the Kingdom of God.

The Church

The Church is the body of Christ, made up of all who believe in Him. Believers are called to gather, worship, grow in relationship with God and one another, and carry out the Great Commission.

Inner Healing and Deliverance

Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted and set the captives free. We believe in the ongoing ministry of inner healing and deliverance as a biblical expression of Christ’s redemptive work in a believer’s life.

The Christian Life

Faith is not meant to be lived one day a week but walked out daily, in obedience to God’s voice and in pursuit of the purpose He has for every believer.

The Return of Christ

Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly to judge the living and the dead and to establish His eternal Kingdom — the city that is to come.
